It is an annual climbing plant. Each pod contains an average of 4 to 12 white beans. The cultivation should take place in soil that is neither too acidic nor too chalky. Beans can be harvested from August onwards as soon as the pods are well-formed but still immature.
Directly sow your bean seeds in a rich, moist, well-drained soil exposed to full sun once all risk of frost is eliminated. Plant them 1'' deep and 6'' apart. Germination should normally occur within 10 days. Avoid overwatering as the seeds may rot. Once germination has occurred, keep the soil moist; you can use mulch to achieve this more effectively.
If cold temperatures threaten, protect your plants or uproot them for storage, hanging them upside down in a cool, dry place until the seeds rattle in the pods.
