Black Spanish radishes are winter radishes and do not tolerate heat well. Plant them about 2 months before the first expected frost in the fall in a rich, moist, well-drained soil that has been deeply worked, at a depth of about ½ inch. Space them about 1 inch apart, and thin them to 3-4 inches apart as they grow.
Black radishes naturally have a strong flavor and taste best when they reach a diameter of about 3 inches. Their pure white flesh is crisp and covered with a black skin. They can be stored during the cold season.
