Prizehead Lettuce is a beautiful and easy-to-grow variety, known for its crisp and sweet taste. Its outer leaves are fringed and edged with bronze/purple, while the inside is a lime green.
Lettuce can be sown directly in the soil as soon as it is workable since it thrives in cool weather. When the soil temperature exceeds 75°F (24°C), the seeds become dormant. Provide it with rich, well-drained soil and full sunlight, and sow the seeds as thinly as possible, thinning them to 6 inches once they have germinated. You can plant them every 2 weeks to ensure a continuous supply of fresh lettuce.
Lettuce has shallow roots, so it requires ample moisture to remain sweet and tender. Mulching is a good option to help retain soil moisture and keep it nearly weed-free. Most types of lettuce will produce a second or even a third harvest after being cut. When the central stem begins to grow, the lettuce leaves may become bitter.
