Its hard and smooth cream-colored rind covers thick, sweet, and tender lemon-green flesh. With a diameter of approximately 6 to 8 inches, it has a high natural sugar content.
Melons should not be planted until the soil temperature is 20°C (70°F) as they prefer to grow in warmth. Start your seeds indoors a month before the last expected ground frost in your region. Sow several seeds at 1/2 inch deep in peat and select the most robust when the plants are well established. Before putting them in the garden, acclimate your plants to outdoor life. Transplant them into the garden, spacing them 4 to 5 feet apart on a mound of soil. If you live in a cold region, it may be beneficial to provide black plastic ground cover or mulch to store heat. Melons will thrive in rich, moist, and well-drained soil.
Once flowers and some fruits have developed, pinch off flowers and smaller fruits to direct all energy toward larger fruits for a more abundant harvest.
As the melon ripens, it will turn golden and become very fragrant; the stem should easily detach. Harvest when they reach a diameter of about 6 inches. The melon can be stored for several weeks in a cool place.
