Very robust and frost-resistant, this type of cabbage is ideal for spring or summer harvests. This variety produces large, dark green leaves with a delicious cabbage flavor.
You should start your cabbage seeds 8 to 12 weeks before the last expected frost by planting them at a depth of 1/2 inch in individual pots. Planting in the garden can be done 2 or 3 weeks before the last expected frost, leaving a space of 24 inches. Be sure to bury the stems halfway. Cabbage prefers cool weather, but in case of severe frost, cover your plants.
Harvest the leaves when they reach about 4 to 5 inches high; the young shoots are tender and flavorful, perfect for salads. Older leaves tend to have a more pronounced flavor. The leaves can be stored in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days and can also be frozen after blanching.
