Also known as Siamese cabbage, the Laurentian Rutabaga produces beautiful, firm roots of approximately 6 inches. They have a sweet and mild flavor.
Rutabagas thrive when planted very early in the spring. Directly sow your seeds in rich, moist soil in full sun at a depth of ½ inch, spacing them 6 inches apart. Mulching will help control moisture and weeds.
After several hard frosts, harvest the rutabagas and cut the foliage to 1 inch. They can be stored for up to 6 months in a cool place.
