Mammoth Sweet Peas prefer to grow in cool weather and do not transplant well. Therefore, it is recommended to plant Mammoth Sweet Pea seeds directly in the garden about 1 month before the expected last frost, as soon as the soil is workable. If you choose to wait before planting, keep in mind that the seeds will go dormant if the soil temperature exceeds 24°C (75°F).
Plant your Mammoth Sweet Pea seeds 2 inches deep and about 3 inches apart in rich, well-drained soil in full sun. A trellis of 5 to 6 feet will be necessary to support the vines. Mulch around the base of the plants to retain moisture and control weeds.
Mammoth Sweet Peas taste best when harvested before the peas fully develop but can also be consumed when mature. The pods can reach 5 inches and are resistant to wilt, providing a very high yield.
