Chickpea is a plant that typically grows to a height of 50 to 60 cm, and its roots, which enrich the soil with nitrogen, can extend up to 2 meters deep.
It adapts to a wide range of climates and soils and is relatively easy to grow. It is best cultivated in full sun as it is a plant that thrives in the warmth of the sun but can withstand cooler temperatures.
Sow your chickpeas in well-drained soil to prevent the roots from becoming waterlogged, as the plant is sensitive to excess water. Plant them at a depth of 1 ½ inches and a distance of 4 to 6 inches. You can speed up the germination of your seeds by soaking them overnight before planting.
Chickpeas are harvested once the pods are completely dry. To expedite the process, hang the entire plants in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Each pod contains only one or two seeds. You can harvest them by hand or by beating the plants.
