Summer Savory grows well in pots and attracts bees while repelling unwanted insects.
Start your Summer Savory seeds about 4 weeks before the last expected frost by placing them on the soil surface. Germination can take up to 21 days. Keep the soil moist until the plant develops. When all risk of frost has passed, transplant them into full sun in rich, well-drained soil, spacing them 12 inches apart.
Summer Savory thrives in relatively dry soil with strong sunlight. Only water if the drought period persists.
The stems often become thin and weak, requiring support to prevent breakage. Summer Savory can easily self-seed, so remove the flowers to prevent its spread. Harvest the leaves as soon as the plant reaches 6 inches, as pruning promotes new growth. To dry Summer Savory, cut the stems and hang them upside down in a dry, dark place for about 2 weeks.
