These large, impressive flowers come in beautiful shades of pink, red, blue, lilac, and white, sure to charm. Thriving on long vines, this plant will grow in almost any corner of your yard. Its fragrance is used in the composition of some cosmetic products such as perfume.
As soon as the soil is workable in spring, you can prepare your seeds. Light frosts will not harm the growth of the plants. Sweet pea seeds need to be softened by soaking overnight in warm water. By morning, some seeds should have swollen, but for those that remain hard, nick the seed coat with a knife. Plant them just below the soil surface (1/4’’) and keep the soil moist until germination.
As the plant grows, pinch the tips of the branches to encourage branching. Since it is a climbing plant, it will be important to provide support, such as a trellis or fence.
